Christmas Sachet Mix

The Christmas Sachet Mix is a traditional blend designed to evoke the scents and spirit of the holiday season. Each ingredient is carefully selected for its aromatic properties and symbolic associations.

Begin with half a pint of pine needles, which bring a fresh, evergreen fragrance and are often associated with purification and renewal. Add half a pint of conifer leaves, contributing a resinous, woodsy note that enhances the wintry aroma.

Next, include a quarter pint of bay leaves, gently crushed to release their subtle, spicy scent. Bay leaves are traditionally linked to protection and wisdom. Add a quarter pint of eucalyptus leaves, also crushed, which offer a crisp, invigorating aroma and are valued for their cleansing qualities.

Incorporate half a pint of dried and chopped orange peel. The citrus notes uplift the blend, symbolizing joy and abundance. Add a quarter pint of cinnamon sticks, chopped to maximize their warm, spicy fragrance, often associated with comfort and prosperity.

Include a quarter pint of allspice berries, which add a complex, sweet-spicy aroma, enhancing the festive character of the mix. For added depth, blend in five tablespoons of a pine and orris root mixture, three tablespoons of an orange and orris root mixture, and two tablespoons of an allspice and orris root mixture. Orris root acts as a fixative, helping the scents to last longer.

Combine all the ingredients thoroughly in a large mixing bowl, ensuring an even distribution of fragrances. Once mixed, transfer the blend into a large jar or a polythene bag. Seal the container tightly and store it in a cool, dark place for two to four weeks. During this period, shake the container occasionally to encourage the ingredients to meld and mature, resulting in a rich, harmonious aroma.
