Magickal Herbal House Washes are traditional blends used to cleanse and protect the home, both physically and energetically. The following recipe is for a Protection Wash, designed to ward off negativity and create a safe, harmonious environment.
The ingredients each serve a specific purpose. Rosemary, used in two parts, is renowned for its purifying and protective qualities, helping to dispel unwanted energies. Basil, also in two parts, is associated with harmony and prosperity, and is believed to attract positive influences. Two large bay leaves are included for their reputation in folk traditions as powerful protectors and enhancers of psychic strength.
Ginger, in two parts, adds a warming, energizing element, amplifying the effects of the other herbs and encouraging movement of stagnant energy. One part dried garlic is included for its strong protective properties, historically used to ward off harm and negativity. Finally, one part black pepper acts as a barrier, helping to keep out unwanted influences.
To prepare the wash, combine all the herbs in a heatproof bowl or pot. Pour boiling water over the mixture, enough to cover the herbs, and allow it to steep until the water cools to room temperature. Strain the liquid, discarding the solids.
