The Love Box is a traditional spell that aims to attract love by using meaningful materials and thoughtful timing. Many find that performing this spell on the first Friday after the new moon, a time linked to Venus—the planet of love—can enhance its effect.
To prepare, you may wish to gather a few specific items: a small, heart-shaped box for your intentions; love-drawing incense, which often contains herbs and resins associated with romance; love-drawing oil, typically infused with botanicals like rose or jasmine; a pink candle, representing affection and healing; parchment paper and a pen for writing your wishes; a piece of rose quartz, known for its connection to unconditional love; a small lock of your own hair to personalize the spell; orris root powder, believed to attract love; a charcoal disc for burning incense; and matches.
Before starting, it can be helpful to center and ground yourself. This might involve deep breathing, meditation, or any calming practice that helps you focus. When you feel ready, light the charcoal disc in a fireproof dish and wait until it is hot enough for the incense.
On the parchment paper, write a clear and specific description of the qualities you hope to find in a partner. Taking time to be honest and thoughtful with your words can help guide the energy of your intention. Place a small amount of the love-drawing incense onto the hot charcoal, letting the scent fill your space and set the mood.
Next, anoint the pink candle with the love-drawing oil. This is often done by gently rubbing the oil from the top toward the center, and then from the bottom toward the center, symbolizing the drawing of love toward you. If you wish, you may recite an invocation such as:
“May the gods of love hear my plea, and bring everlasting love to me!”
Light the candle and read your written petition aloud, focusing on your heartfelt desire. Place the candle on top of the parchment paper, allowing the wax to drip naturally as it burns. Add more incense to the charcoal as needed to maintain the atmosphere.
Take a few moments to meditate on your wish, visualizing yourself experiencing the love you seek. When your intention feels clear and strong, you might choose to recite:
“Hail to thee, goddess of love, shine down on me from above. Bring now a lover to me. As I will, so it shall be.”
Allow all items to remain undisturbed until the candle has completely burned out. This is thought to help release your intention and seal the energy of the spell.
Once the candle has finished burning, place the parchment paper in the bottom of the heart-shaped box. Drip seven drops of the love-drawing oil onto the paper, as the number seven is often associated with spiritual power. Add your lock of hair, the rose quartz, a pinch of orris root powder, and any remaining candle drippings into the box.
The closed box can then be placed in a location that feels meaningful to you—perhaps somewhere you often pass by, or in a spot connected to your intention.
This ritual serves as a symbolic act of setting your intention and inviting love into your life. The effectiveness of any spell is often linked to sincerity, focus, and an open mind toward the possibilities that may arise.
