Also known as Scotch broom or Irish broom, it
can be substituted for furze (gorse) at the time
of the spring equinox. Sweep your outside
ritual areas with it to purify and protect them;
burning the blooms and shoots is said to calm
the wind. Broom multiplies profusely if there is
a need for its protective powers. The Irish
called it the ‘physician’s power’ because of its
diuretic properties.
